Panzer-Grenadier ''Division Grossdeutschland''

Practically every army throughout history has had its corps d'elite, from the Praetorian Guard through Napoleon's grognards to today's SAS and similar bodies of hand-picked men. In the German Wehrmacht of the Second World War there were several units which were given or which acquired a similar status, but of all these one stands head and shoulders above the others. This was Panzer-Grenadier Division 'Grossdeutschland', formed from the infantry regiment of the same name in 1942 and later increased to the size of a complete Korps with several divisions under command.
